The Road Keeps Going Saturday, I rode five laps around Dillon Reservoir. 100 miles. I didn't ride them alone. People jumped in for a lap. Others stayed for more. People came and went throughout the day. Somewhere in there, it hit me: That was a pretty perfect way to end my own summer with Spoke. I've ridden six centuries this year, yet when I think about this summer, I don't really think about my own milestones. I think about everyone else's. Someone's first century. Someone's first Triple Bypass. Someone's first Copper Triangle. Someone's longest ride ever. Someone showing up alone for the first time and finding people to ride with. We had ~25 people show up one morning to take on Copper Triangle and Dirty Triangle. We found each other over and over again across 118 miles of Triple Bypass. We rode Tuesdays. Thursdays. Saturdays. Sundays. We filled a room for More Than a Ride. Somehow this little cycling community even ended up on CBS. This has been one of my favorite summers of my life. Now my roads are taking me somewhere else for a while. I'll spend most of the next two months outside Summit County, leading bike tours and riding plenty of miles, but I won't be home organizing the next ride. Maybe that's a good thing, because Spoke was never supposed to belong to one person. If you want a ride to happen, make it happen. Post it. Invite people. Lead it. Three people riding around the lake and grabbing coffee afterward? That's Spoke.. I'm not ready to write the ending to Season 2 yet. There are still miles left. I want to see what happens next. For now: Thank you for one hell of a summer. One of my favorites ever. Not because of how many miles I rode, but because of how many of them I got to share. Keep riding. Keep inviting. Keep showing up. I'll see you when the roads bring me home.

Well… this happened! Spoke was featured on CBS Colorado. Somehow, a story that started with bicycles became a five-minute conversation about loneliness, mental health, friendship, belonging, and what it means to find community in a mountain town. Which feels pretty appropriate. Bikes were always the vehicle. Connection is the point. Thank you to Spencer Wilson and CBS Colorado for spending time with us, and to Building Hope Summit County for helping tell the bigger story about why spaces like this matter. Most importantly: Thank you to everyone who showed up. Everyone who came to a first ride knowing nobody. Everyone who invited somebody else. Everyone who waited. Everyone who led. Everyone who stayed in the parking lot talking long after the ride ended. Every person who helped turn a calendar of bike rides into an actual community. CBS told the story. You created it. Patrick is away guiding this week, so Tuesday’s Social Ride and Thursday Night Thunder roll on without him, exactly the way a real community should. Then he’ll be back for one final Saturday Social this season before spending most of September and October out of Summit County. Saturday. 9:00am. Frisco Visitor Center. NEW TRAIL. NEW ROUTES. LET’S GO. 🚲⛰️ Swan Mountain officially opened Monday, and we’re STOKED. We got out for an opening-day ride, and this new connection is going to unlock some really fun possibilities for getting around Summit County by bike. So obviously… we’re riding it twice this week. More Than a Ride. A couple weeks ago, more than 60 people walked into a room in Frisco because of bikes. For one night, we barely talked about the bikes. We talked about connection. About loneliness. About finding people. About what it means to live in a place this beautiful and still sometimes feel alone in it. We talked about why Spoke exists in the first place. And then we did the thing we’ve been trying to do all summer: We spent time together. People who had never met sat down next to each other. Riding partners became friends. New people walked into a room not knowing anyone and left knowing a few more faces around Summit County. It was loud. It was messy. It was incredibly human. These are just a few of the moments from More Than a Ride, our night with Building Hope Summit County. There will be plenty more to share. Maybe the best part is that the night wasn't an ending. Tuesday, ten people got back on bikes together. Thursday Night Thunder rolls again this week. Saturday Social is back at 9:00 AM. This weekend, riders are taking on the Leadville Trail 100 MTB and the end-of-season race at A-Basin. We're checking Swan every day, waiting for the gates to finally open! The big nights matter, but so do all the ordinary Tuesdays and Saturdays that come afterward. That’s where community actually gets built. More than a ride. Still rolling. See you out there.

This Wednesday, leave the bike at home. The most important Spoke gathering this week is not a ride. It is an opportunity to meet the people behind the helmets, connect outside of the pace line, and help shape what this community can become. MORE THAN A RIDE Wednesday, July 29 6:00-8:00 pm Highside Brewing, Frisco Spoke began with cycling, but the purpose has always been bigger: creating connection, reducing isolation, and helping people find community here in Summit County. That is why we are partnering with Building Hope Summit County for an evening centered on movement, mental health, belonging, and the relationships we build along the way. Come if you ride with us every week. Come if you have only joined once. Come if you have followed along but have not made it to a ride yet. Come if you simply want to meet more good people in this community. No bike required. No pace requirement. No need to already know anyone. Bring yourself. Bring a friend. Bring your ideas for what we can build next. SATURDAY UPDATE: Beginning this Saturday, our Saturday Social Ride will move to 9:00 am for all five Saturdays in August. We will reassess before September. This weekend is also the Copper Triangle, with around a dozen Spoke riders expected on course. Six days to ride. One community. From now through September 1, we’re piloting a consistent six-day Spoke schedule across Summit County: Monday - Social MTB Tuesday - Social Road Wednesday - No standing ride Thursday - Spicy Road Friday - Social MTB Saturday - Social Road Sunday - Advanced MTB All four weekday rides now meet at 5:30 pm and roll around 5:45 pm. We’ve passed the longest day of the year, and moving slightly earlier will help us preserve daylight. We’re also into monsoon season, so weather cancellations may happen. Our goal is to announce cancellations approximately 90 minutes before each ride. This week, we’re also testing a 9:00 am Saturday Social start instead of 10:00 am. The hope is to finish earlier, avoid more afternoon showers, and give everyone more time for their Saturday plans. Then comes the biggest night on our calendar: ⭐ MORE THAN A RIDE Wednesday, July 29 6:00-8:00 pm Highside Brewing in Frisco Spoke × Building Hope. This is about more than bicycles. It is about connection, belonging, and creating more ways for people in Summit County to find one another. We want the entire community there. Bring a friend. In a sea of thousands of riders and thousands of jerseys, we found one another, and met a whole lot of new people along the way. The Triple Bypass gave us long climbs, fast descents, shared pulls, tired legs, big smiles, a few grimaces, and more pickle juice than we care to count. The best part was experiencing it together. A group of over a dozen Spoke riders regrouped at every aid station, shared laughs throughout the day, and helped one another keep moving forward. A huge thank you to Tom for taking on so much of the organization leading into the ride, from transportation and packet pickup to sharing information and helping everyone arrive prepared. Thank you to everyone who rode, supported, volunteered, cheered, and stopped to connect with us throughout the weekend. We also want to extend a very warm welcome to everyone who discovered Spoke, joined our groups, followed along, or became part of this community over the past few days. Whether you have lived in Summit County for years or just arrived, whether you are chasing podiums or searching for people to ride with, there is room for you here. Introduce yourself. Join a ride. THIS IS WHAT INDEPENDENCE LOOKS LIKE. 🇺🇸🚲 Not doing everything alone. Having the freedom to try. The courage to start, and finding people willing to build something with you. This weekend did not go according to plan. Smoke forced us to cancel Thursday Night Spice. Then the Firecracker was cut in half. Two laps became one. No pacing for later. No matches to save. One lap. Burn everything. 🔥 This community showed up. Wins. Podiums. First attempts. Personal victories. Hard-earned finishes. (Rest up Nate!) We realized afterward that we barely captured the part we care about most. We have race pictures. We do not have the picture of all of us together. We’ll get better at that. The accomplishments matter, but the people around them are the real story. This week, that story continues. Our usual founder-led rides will not happen exactly as planned. So maybe someone else says: “I’m going for a ride. Who wants to come?” Then on Saturday, one of the biggest cycling days of the year comes straight through our backyard. At least a dozen Spoke riders will take on the Triple Bypass from Evergreen, along with 4,500 other riders. Some of us may ride up Loveland Pass to meet them. Some may join along the dam. Some may wait near the bottom of Vail Pass and climb with them. Some may just show up and cheer. All of it counts. You do not have to ride the entire Triple Bypass to be part of the Triple Bypass. Ride 120 miles. Ride 20. Ride 5. Climb a pass. Cruise the dam. Stand on the side of the road and make some noise. There is no single right way to belong here. This Saturday, July 11: Let’s make the route through Summit County feel like home. This weekend, we celebrated independence. This week, let’s practice it. Who’s grabbing the handlebars?

Spoke is growing up. This was a huge week for the community. Thursday’s spicy Montezuma lap is becoming more than just a fast ride. It is turning into a weekly skill-building space for riders learning how to move faster, smoother, and safer in groups and pacelines. Saturday was massive: 22 riders showed up for the Saturday Social. We rode 30 miles and about 2,000 feet through Hamilton Creek and the Raven neighborhoods in Silverthorne. Yes, that also means we have officially outgrown our little coffee shop corner. Moving forward, Saturday Social will meet at the Old Town Hall Pavilion, near Rebel Sports and diagonally across from Rocky Mountain Coffee Roasters at 3rd & Main. Same general area, more space to gather. Sunday brought more MTB energy on the Breck Epic Stage 4 route, plus a chance to support SCOMBA and the trail work that makes riding in Summit County possible. Tonight, we round out the month with Full Moon Ride #2. July is going to be big. This is the heart of the riding season, and the full roadmap will go out in Wednesday’s newsletter. Lee finally got me on a mountain bike. Apparently my first real welcome to the Summit County MTB race scene was the Peaks Trail Time Trial. Casual. 😅 I had no idea what I was doing besides trusting the bike, trusting my legs, and sending it. Somehow that turned into 1st place in the beginner division, which is hilarious and awesome. Honestly though, that was not even the best part. The best part was the community. People before the race. People after the race. The whole finish line lighting up when I came through. Some cheers were probably because people knew I was out there trying something brand new. Some were probably because they were surprised I actually made it down Peaks Trail on a mountain bike. Either way, it was euphoric. Spoke showed up HARD. Julie, Alyssa, Lee, and I all took 1st in our divisions. Nicole, Tom, Sonya, and Ben all hit podiums too. Ben was also on the organizing team and MC’ing the finish line. Jeff was out on course checking on riders. Colin was near the end cheering people in. Scott was there supporting while nursing a back injury. That’s the stuff. Not just racing. Not just podiums. People organizing. People showing up. People trying new things. People cheering each other on. Huge thanks to the Summit County mountain bike community for the welcome. Week 3 of 6 is in the books. Who’s jumping in next week? 30 riders. 3 rides. 1 day. Saturday was the biggest Spoke ride day yet. What started as one idea in the chat became a road ride, a dirt ride, SAG support, and a Saturday Social all happening on the same morning. 15 riders took on the Copper Triangle. 7 riders rolled out for the Dirty Triangle. 8 more joined the Saturday Social to Keystone and back. Road, mountain, social, spicy, big adventure, approachable morning ride. That is what we are building. Not one ride trying to be everything for everyone. Multiple doors into the same community. The full week was even bigger: Ladies’ Ride kicked off, Thursday Night Thunder tackled Montezuma, Rock the Dock brought a huge crew together off the bike, and over 40 riders found connection through Spoke in one week. This is the heart of it. Someone suggests a ride. Someone else adds an idea. Someone else helps lead. Someone else brings support. People say yes. The community grows.
